Matt 'Shaggy' Marchant - Brain Tumour Treatment
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family and anyone who knows Matt,
Peter, Matt's little brother here. Our family have set up this page to help raise money towards Matt's treatment and care as he continues to bravely live with Gliosarcoma, an extremely rare and aggressive type of malignant brain tumour.
Many of our friends and family have seen how inspirational and determined Matt has been to keep living the best life he can despite having this devastating condition. Even before his diagnosis in March 2018 he was already an inspiration; he climbed Ben Nevis not long before, he played and worked tirelessly to make our band, Phantom Isle a success, built an amazing career as a videographer and has always been a true, loving friend to everyone in his life. He has always been my shoulder to cry on, the first person I turn to if I needed advice with anything, whether it be finding a job or playing the guitar. He had an active, happy and healthy lifestyle has always looked after himself and others as best he can. This man has giving me everything. Now I want to do everything I can to help him.
Matt has had five brain surgeries in the last 18 months, 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 6 different types of chemotherapy. Whilst there is no known cure for this illness, there are experimental treatments currently being trialled, some of which have helped some patients. One such treatment is called Avastin which he is currently receiving - our consultant at Northampton General Hospital tells us that it appears to be shrinking the tumour slightly which is good news. However, the drug is not available on the NHS and therefore does not come cheap; around £20,800 a year. So far he has had four infusions, costing around £1,400 per infusion. As well as this, we have had to buy a wheelchair accessible car and make big changes to our home to cater for his reduced mobility as the condition has caused some paralysis on his right hand side.
My amazing mum, Cilla has given up her livelihood as a nurse to look after Matt full time and is now spending her life savings on making sure he's healthy in every way possible. My wonderful dad, Richard who at the age of 73 should be enjoying his retirement has become a full time carer. I'm working full time whilst doing everything I can to make sure Matt's life's work as a musician and creator is recognised and remembered, whilst travelling from London to our family home in Northampton every weekend to spend precious time with Matt and help look after him.
This illness is costing Matt, Mum, Dad and myself in ways that money just can't solve, but whatever donation you are able to make to this cause in Matt's name would be so gratefully received as would still help us no end.
Love to you all,
Peter Marchant
