We Want to Help Matt & JaNae Fight Cancer Again!!

Donation protected
By all accounts, 2018 was a great year for the Wright family.  Their oldest son moved out to go to college, their daughter turned 16 and got her driver’s license, their son with Down syndrome began middle school with amazing support from some great aides, and their youngest child turned eight and was baptized in their local church.

Out of the Blue
Matt began to have a cough and pain in his abdomen in December. His cancer check-ups for nearly 7 years had been clear so no one suspected that this was the cause. After tests at the first of January, doctors found a 5-inch tumor in his liver, and further tests confirmed that his Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was back.

Treatments Begin
On Monday, January 14th, the day of Matt’s 47th birthday, he began a treatment plan that will span the next 4-6 months and divided up into two phases.  Recovery could last up to a year. The first phase of the treatment schedule is rigorous–daily chemo treatments Monday through Thursday split up by a two-week break period.  The 2nd phase involves a high dose chemotherapy and then a stem cell transplant which will require a 3-6 week hospital stay in Salt Lake City. The purpose of the transplant is to give Matt a brand-new immune system, free of cancer.

Expenses and Unknowns
Depending on the success of the chemo and stem-cell transplant there could also be additional treatments including radiation and perhaps even more chemo.   There are many expenses and unknowns that come with this sort of treatment and recovery--genetic testing, pharmacuticals, chemo, radiation, travel, lenghty hospital stays, etc.  The doctor has told Matt that he will need to go on disability and the Wrights will need to manage the additional medical expenses and their daily living expenses on a reduced income. In short, the financial burden is imminent and adding to the already stressful situation.

Expected Outcome
Their team of doctors are confident that the treatment will work.  As their doctor told Matt and JaNae early on, "we can beat this, but it's going to be a battle.” The reality of that battle has begun to sink in. The doctor described the pattern of each treatment—low energy, heart burn, nausea, mouth sores, being highly susceptible to infection, and needing home-health for adequate care. The doctors have told him that they are counting on some miracles to help him through this one.

Let’s Help
In the face of this devastating news, Matt and JaNae have been incredibly strong and positive. They have demonstrated such faith and courage in their many medical challenges including JaNae’s own fight against Cancer in 2006. For those of you that know this family, they are simply the kindest, most loving people most of us have encountered.   If you are unable to donate, you can still show your love and support by including Matt and JaNae and their family in your thoughts and prayers.  It all adds up!

Please check back often for updates about Matt’s progress!   Thank you for your generosity and concern.
