Help Matt & Kelly Davis on Matt's Road to Recovery

This fundraiser has been created for firefighter Matt Davis and his wife, teacher Kelly Davis, in an effort to help ease the burden of the couple’s current and future medical bills as Matt recovers from a life-threatening cardiac event that occurred over the holidays, and as he faces a long and uncertain road to recovery ahead.

Just before this past Christmas, Matt and Kelly’s lives took an unexpected turn when, having been diagnosed with pneumonia and failing to respond to treatment, Matt checked into the ER only to be put on a ventilator hours later. His wife Kelly was informed at that point that his chance of survival was 50/50. Due to the seriousness of the situation, Matt was brought by helicopter to Tampa General’s Cardiovascular ICU where he spent an agonizing week, as Kelly’s mom (a nurse) described it, “ventilated, sedated with too many IV’s to list.” After countless tests and procedures, it was determined that “the pneumonia was caused by a cardiac event and that his lungs were completely full of fluid from inadequate pumping of the heart which put him in congestive heart failure,” Kelly’s mom explained.

Since then, Matt’s condition has made a miraculous turnaround and he has been able to go home with the support of a life vest. The family credits this not only to the amazing care he received at TGH, but the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from family, friends and the community which has been truly amazing. However, Matt still faces a long road ahead with much more medical investigation and treatment needed, and his return to work is questionable at this time. This fundraiser is intended to help with those needs as well as the couple’s mounting medical expenses. If you are able, please help support this amazing couple with a donation.
