Matt Bittle's Spinal Surgery and Medical Expenses
Donation protected
For everyone who knows Matt Bittle, he was rushed to the hospital January 15th because of his back. He was in such sudden, awful pain that he could not move. EMTs had to use a stretcher and ambulance to get him out of his home and to the hospital. There, doctors found bulging discs in his lower back. They wanted to perform surgery to grind down the discs, to relieve the pain and buy him time before he'd need further surgery (and wait for better technology for disc replacement). After grinding down the spine, he lost some feeling in his waist and legs. So doctors went back in to grind down further and in the process punctured his spine, causing spinal fluid to leak, MAJOR migraines and still excruciating back pain. He then endured a blood patch, hoping it would clot and stop the spinal fluid leak. The leaking has never stopped and the pain and migraines have not gone away. Now the hospital has found 2 separate staph infections and blood clots in both his legs. They have inserted a PICC line and prescribed heavy antibiotics for 6-8 weeks and blood thinners for 4-6 months. As of now, he is unable to walk and cannot undergo any surgery or another blood patch until the infections clear up.
I am blessed to have known Matt and be best friends since middle school. He is the hardest working man and loving husband to his wonderful wife Mindy. He is an exceptional father to 2 amazing boys Wyatt (SuperWy) and Jackson (Bub). Matt has not worked since January and was the family's main source of income. Mindy was home, caring for the family all week and working on the weekends. Medical bills are imminent and I hate to watch them stress over that burden.
To know the family is to have seen true love. Matt and Mindy are the world to one another, and outstanding parents to their boys. Throughout life's trials, they never give up. They meet every challenge with an exuberant smile and a new determination. Let's please help them weather this storm. Let's show then they don't ever have to go through it alone.
