Matt Harris Treatment and Recovery Fund
Donation protected
As many of you know, Matt was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in the spring of 2022. Multiple myeloma is an incurable cancer of the plasma cells that build up in the bone marrow and form tumors in many bones of the body. Although there is no known cure, it is treatable! Matt has been undergoing rounds of chemotherapy and is set to be in remission by the end of the summer. To keep him in remission as long as possible, his care team will perform a plasma transplant this fall. This transplant consists of collecting his stem cells, giving him a very concentrated dose of chemotherapy to kill any remaining cancer cells (and eliminate his immune system) and then reintroduce his treated stem cells into his body to rebuild his immune system. We are very optimistic about this transplant, but it will put him in the hospital for up to a month and extend his recovery up to six months afterward, making him unable to work during that time.
We are hoping to raise money to help with medical bills but mostly to take some of the burden of the bills Matt pays off of his family's shoulders while he is unable to work. Some of those bills factored into this number are his house payment, insurances and a hefty medical insurance deductible once the first of the year passes again. If his recovery time is shorter and he can return to work early (which is his hope and goal), any additional money raised will be set aside for medical incurrence in the future, as this is a cancer that will stay with him for the rest of his life.
If you can donate, anything helps. If you cannot, please share this with your friends and family! Thank you so much for your continued support + we will keep the community updated as we have updates to share!
