Support April, Aiden, Audrey & Alice After the Loss of Matt

Hi, my name is Amanda, and I'm creating this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friend April Legris and her three incredible kids—Aiden (15), Audrey (13), and Alice (11)—who just experienced the heartbreaking loss of their husband and father, Matt Hookins.

I was there when Matt passed, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with terminal neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. Over the last two years, the cancer spread aggressively to his liver, bones, skin, and brain. Despite everything, Matt stayed strong and present for his family until the very end.

Matt and April were together for 17 years. They built a beautiful life and a loving home, filled with laughter, music, inside jokes, and unconditional support. Losing him has left a hole that can never be filled.

Now April is left to care for their children on her own, in the middle of unimaginable grief. Watching her hold it together for her kids while dealing with this devastating loss has been humbling. Matt asked her to "just take care of the kids"—and she is doing everything she can to honor that promise. But she needs help.

This GoFundMe is to support:

Living expenses (rent, groceries, bills, transportation)

Counseling and mental health support for the kids and April

School supplies and activities so the kids can maintain some sense of normalcy

Any final expenses not covered by insurance

April has always been the strong one, the caregiver, the rock. But now she’s in a storm no one should have to weather alone.
