Dear Friends and Family,

Our hearts are broken.   It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Matt Lynch. He left us on Thursday morning, 28 February, with his family alongside him in New Jersey.

‘Matty’ was Our Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin and dear Friend.  Regardless of the connection, what everyone felt in common was their love and affection for this warm, bright, funny, kind-hearted and exceptional human-being.  For those who knew him well, Matt loved quoting movies.   A few weeks ago, he sent his brother a quote from one of his favorite movies, Serendipity:

You know the Greeks didn’t write obituaries. They only asked one question after a man died: ‘Did he have passion?’”

Matt lived an extraordinary life, full of passion.  He spent his first 25 years living in Sayreville, New Jersey and Philadelphia, where he attended Drexel, was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, and launched his professional business career.  In 1994, he moved halfway around the world to Warsaw, Poland.  He joined his older brother in what turned out the be the adventure of a lifetime, having travelled to more than 50 countries on five continents – probably making new friends in every one of them, knowing Matt.  He helped launch a successful business, was president of a children’s hospital charitable foundation, and was a champion of Polish-American relations.

At 51, he left us much too soon, after a 24-month struggle with colon cancer.  Matt remained true to character throughout his illness.  He refused to let his life be defined by the disease, and fought with dignity and great courage, never seeking out pity.  He maintained his patented sense of humor and uncanny positive attitude until the very end. He was and will remain an inspiration to us all.

His closest family includes his mother Janice, father John and wife Toni, siblings John, Lori & Patricia, The Herricks, The Sliwinski’s, The Lynches of Poland, as well as so many amazingly loyal and supportive friends – in the USA, Poland and around the world.  He was proud of being a Lynch, and leaves behind more than 100 Lynch-family relatives.

We have set up an address for people to send us their tributes to Matt, including your favorite memories, funny incidents or ‘war stories’ of times spent with him:

If we are going to remember Matt forever, we will need lots of them – so we are awaiting your submissions.   We will announce plans for services in the USA and Poland shortly.  In lieu of flowers, friends can send donations to a special fund which we will donate to Friends of Children’s Hospitals in Warsaw.  Thank you everyone for your love and support.

And Matty, we love you.
