Matt got gone
Matthew Tyler McCutchen left this world on February 17, 2023 at the age of 42 years old. In lieu of flowers or gifts, this gofundme is set up to assist Beth and her kids with means to adjust to life without Matt and his earnings that he provided to his family.
Though he is no longer physically here, Matt’s impression on the world around him will forever be imprinted in the mind’s of those that knew and loved him. Matt was uniquely unique and was blessed with varying degrees of special. Matt had the extraordinary ability of leaving a wake behind him wherever he went that was often filled with love, laughter and kindness. . . that was most often tinted with mischievousness. . . .the way that only Matt knew how to give it.
Matt’s specialties were providing:
1. fixed things
2. pieces of broken things that could be a fixed thing some day
3. functioning things that could be broken up to make into a ‘fixed’ thing
4. ‘truth’ bombs that may or not be true but made to make sense. . . from a certain point of view
5. a thoughtful gift or a gadget you didn’t know you needed, but he could tell you 3 reasons why you did and be baffled why you didn’t see it yourself
6. an unbelievable idea of a hypothetical way of solving a problem that usually involved a step 1 of identifying the problem and a step 2 of a crucial something yet to be determined but seemingly easy (judging by his tone of voice when saying it) and step 3 of profit
7. a heartfelt word for word rendition of a random Britney Spears song or some other 90’s pop tune classic that you wouldn’t expect him to know
Matt had an undeniable eternal energy that burned inside of him that kept him on the go and always creating, fixing, breaking, accumulating, laughing, stirring up stuff, and laughing some more. This was a contagious affliction that would usually involve you as a player in the game, a part of the setting in his play or a figurative pawn to be sacrificed if need be. He always found a way to make life interesting for himself and others.
Matt was a very hard worker. He did not mess around when a job needed done and he was motivated and focused. You either helped or you needed to get out of the way, because one way or the other it was getting done, often with an unexpected spin of Matt’s undefinable style.
Matt is survived by his ‘wifey’ Beth Kirby and his 3 sons Izaak and Wyatt of Virginia and Kaiden of Texas, Beth’s other son Alex, Matt’s father John R. McCutchen and his wife Natalie and her kids Camille and Jack Spencer and Jack’s wife Terri, his brother John D. McCutchen and wife Marisa and his grandmother Betty Jo McCutchen.
Matt was exceptionally talented at taking advantage of a situation or creating a situation that would produce an, often outrageous, story. Everyone, EVERYONE has at least one Matt story that would be impossible to make up and more difficult to believe if there weren’t witnesses present at the time. He certainly carved out a niche for himself in people’s lives and has left a gaping hole that can never be filled by anyone, not even close. He is sorely missed, but we should never forget what Matt was and what he meant to those around him. Furthermore, we should never forget the stories. He was a legend and stories are the foundation of all legends. . .
If you have a Matt story or 8, please email them to [email redacted] or contact that email and ask for another method to send stories to. We would like to make a compilation of Matt stories to be shared in some manner. Of course, names and places may be changed to protect the ‘innocent’. If you send a video, please let us know if you do not want it shared or want it obscured in some way. But please share away, Matt’s stories and some of his fixed things are all that remains of him now.
There will be multiple celebrations of life set up at some point in the future. Matt would have loved knowing that there were multiple parties in his honor, but the parties will not be the same without him.
Much love to you Matt, we could say rest in peace. . . but we know better.
