Fundraiser for Matt Oates battling Brain Cancer
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Josh Oates and I am Matty’s younger brother and I am looking for your help to get Matt and his family some relief during these hard times. While Matt was at work one day in 2017, he noticed that his speech was off and decided to go to the hospital where he underwent testing and after a lot of sleepless nights he was finally given an answer and he was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor known as Anaplastic Astrocytoma Grade 3.
Shortly after diagnosis he underwent his first of 6 brain surgeries where they were able to get enough but not all of the tumor. He went through months of chemo in congunction with radiation. Throughout the last 5 years he got a brain MRI every six months to monitor the tumor. This past May he went for his “routine” scan when he learned that he had some spots that “lite up”. He met with his oncology team who decided to wait another 4 weeks and repeat the MRI. June 1st he got his 2nd MRI where he learned that the area doubled in size, and at this time the team decided to put a plan into place effective immediately. Matt is currently back on a very intense dose of oral chemo/clinical trial targeted for this type of tumor. He will go for his 7th surgery on July 25th followed by 13 more months of chemo.
Throughout all of this Matt has remained positive and upbeat all at the same time of being the best version of a dad he can be. Matty always has a smile on his face, he loves watching his 2 girls (Lilah 13 and Thea 3) grow up and learn something new everyday. But more importantly having the love of his life Christine continue to be the constant source of strength and support Matt has needed. Matt has always worked in construction and now due to the effects of the chemo he is unable work consistently and therefore goes without pay. We are hoping that we can give him a little help to ease the burden of medical expenses and what he has facing him. Thank you in advance.
