Matt Richards Recovery Fund

Hi, my name is Sherri. Matt is my brother and I am starting this fundraiser to ask for your help to support his family while he recovers.

On Easter Sunday, April 9th Matthew had a terrible accident. He was doing what he always does while at home, he was working around the house. He was hanging the second of two ceiling fans on the back patio cover he had just built when the ladder he was standing on slipped out from under him. When his wife Rebecca heard the commotion she ran outside to find him on the ground unconsious and immediately called 911.

When he fell, he landed on his head and shoulder suffering a brain bleed that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then rushed via helicopter to a level 2 trauma center. He also broke his collar bone in two places requiring surgery with plates and pins to repair it.

After a stay in the hospital's intensive care unit, he was moved to a regular hospital floor and then to a rehabilitation center where they worked with him to walk, assess his memory and begin speaking again. He is now at home undergoing speech/cognitive therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy.

Matt will have a lengthy recovery process that will require him to undergo intensive therapy to recover fully. While he is making some progress it will be some time before he can return to work. Matthew is the sole provider for his family. His beautiful wife Rebecca is doing a wonderful job supporting him in his recovery and taking care of him. It is a full-time job for her.

As many of you know, it has been a rough number of years for this family. 7 years ago Matt lost his wife of 26 years to illness. It was devastating for this family. Then just 3 years ago the unthinkable happened and Matt lost his son Jordan unexpectedly. All of which have taken an emotional and financial toll.

Anyone that knows my brother, knows that he would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. He has helped many people in times of need. Do you need to repair your deck? Matt is right there ready to re-build it for you. He has donated countless hours and materials to remodel and build homes for disabled veterans. Every Church he has called home has benefited from his time and labor given freely. He has a servant's heart for anyone in need. That is who he is in his soul.

It is with humility that I ask for your support for Matthew and Rebecca in their time of need. Please donate to help cover their hospital bills, extensive therapy and living expenses as Matt continues his recovery. With all that they have in front of them, worrying about money should not be at the top of the list.
