My name is Michael Hughett and Matthew is my 35-year old son. Over the last few months my wife Sherry and I noticed that Matt was having some problems with his memory as well as performing some basic daily functions. On October 8, Matt received a CT scan on his brain to see if we could find an explanation for these issues. This scan revealed a large mass in his brain. He was immediately taken to St. John hospital in Tulsa where further tests were done and it was determined that he had a large malignant tumor in the left side of his brain. Matt had surgery on the 13th and he was released from the hospital on the 17th after being in the hospital for a total of 9 days. The doctor estimates that he was able to remove about 80% of the tumor and Matt is feeling better since surgery. He will begin radiation and chemotherapy treatment later in November.
Matt left his job back in July due to some of the mental issues caused by what we now know was the tumor. He had no health insurance from the company for which he last worked. He applied for and was approved for financial assistance from St. John but as you can imagine, this financial aid does not cover 100% of all costs. Matt will begin treatment from Oklahoma Cancer Specialists in Tulsa and while he has also been approved for financial assistance from them, once again it will not cover all costs and the financial assistance is only for a few months.
Since Matt is not working and cannot currently drive his car, he terminated the lease on his apartment and is now living with us. He will require significant financial assistance to pay existing medical bills as well as the upcoming treatments and other medical expenses. He has applied for Federal Disability support as well as government medical assistance (i.e. Medicare/Medicaid) to help with future expenses but this is expected to take several months and only covers a portion of his expenses.
Thank you for your consideration of Matthew's financial needs and we appreciate all of the prayers and support we have received. God is greater than cancer and we are believing in God for Matt's healing and thank him for the healing that has already begun.
