Matthew L. Mintz of Gloucester, Virginia unexpectedly passed away on Saturday April 1st leaving behind his wife Crystal and their daughter Genevieve. The tragic motorcycle accident that took Matt from us all has left his family shocked, and grief stricken. If you knew Matt, you’d know how much he touched the lives of everyone around him. Matt was a father, husband, and brother to veterans. He filled his life with generosity and service to others. He served in the United States Army for 21 years giving all he had to his country and fellow service members. This was just the beginning for Matt, he continued to give to his country after the Army serving as a contractor and Department of the Army Civilian with the Technology Development Directorate. His extensive contacts with the Special Operations Command and his ability to teach, train, and lead was an incredibly strong force in the daily operations of anyone that worked with or near him. Outside of his service to our country, Matt gave back to his local community through volunteer work at the local emergency rooms employing his extensive combat medical trauma training and volunteered as a first response medical assistant to numerus sporting events throughout the local high school and youth programs within the Hampton Roads Peninsula area. The local fire department reached out to Matt for opportunities to facilitate their own training and better the response and reaction to emergencies within the surrounding area. As a member of the Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association, living the values of “Vets Helping Vets”, Matt continued to help in fundraising for local veterans, as well as spreading his message of never leaving a brother in need behind. Last but certainly not least, Matt was on record professing his faith in Jesus Christ. 1 John 5:13 is states, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.” Matt is certainly in Heaven with Jesus. It’s now our turn to give back and help Crystal and Gen as they deal with the loss of Matt. We are raising money to assist with the immediate needs and unforeseen costs of arrangements, as the family begins to process this loss.
