Matthew Morgan Memorial Baseball Scholarship Fund

This page is set up to accept donations to help establish the Matthew R. Morgan Memorial Baseball Scholarship which is being created to honor my brother Matt’s memory and his love of Palatine High School baseball.
Matthew, a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, passed away February 2, 2020 at the age of 30 while serving in Okinawa, Japan.
Growing up Matt loved baseball. He started playing t-ball at the age of four and continued through high school, where he was a pitcher for the Palatine High School Pirates until he graduated in 2007.
We would like to honor Matt’s memory, his love of Palatine High School and the characteristics that best resembled Matt including perseverance, resiliency, hard work and leadership. This college scholarship will be provided to a deserving Palatine High School baseball player who embodies similar qualities.
Matt might not have been born with the raw talent of a baseball player, but he really loved the sport. As a sophomore at PHS, Matt did not make the team. However, this did not stop him and he offered to become the team manager that same year. He continued to practice, persevere and put in the work he needed to improve and was chosen as a pitcher on the same team for his Junior and Senior years.
We are hoping to raise $18,000, which will be placed into a dedicated bank account that will be used to fund the scholarship.
Matt’s number was 18 when he played for Palatine High School, and our goal is to award an annual $1,000 scholarship for 18 years. The Morgan family will commit to funding any remaining needed monies.
The first scholarship will be given in Spring 2020 to a deserving Palatine High School baseball player.
Details of the scholarship are currently being worked out with Palatine High School and District 211, and all donors will be updated with the final details.
Thank you for helping to keep Matt’s memory alive.
