Matthew Sorley - the next greatest saxophonist

Hi, we’re Chris and Jane and we first heard Matthew a month ago - a brilliant 17-year old saxophonist.

Matthew has just received a full scholarship at the prestigious, world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston.

The College was obviously impressed by Matthew’s musical background:

- studied at Humber College under Berklee alumnus Lucian Gray, Juno Award nominee Adrean Farrugia and internationally acclaimed Jazz guitarist Lorne Lofsky

- studied with Juno Award-winning saxophonists Kelly Jefferson, Kirk MacDonald, Pat LaBarbera and Mike Murley

- at his high school, he performed in the school’s orchestra, wind ensemble, musicl theatre pit, Generation Jazz (his own combo), and Senior Jazz Big Band, AM Stages

- has his own group – Matt Sorley Trio

- played with a couple of Big Band groups – Swing Shifr Big Band and George Lake Big Band

This is all in addition to his studies where he maintains a mid-90s average and enjoys sports, especially hockey.

And let’s not forget that he also volunteers his musical talents at his church and at a senior’s home, both places that truly appreciate Matthew’s contributions.

The scholarship he received from Berklee is obviously well deserved, but it only covers his tuition for the next four years. He is still required to cover everyday expenses, including residence and meals. It is estimated this will cost him approximately $30,000 per year.
