Fellow Firefighter Friends and Family:
My name is Matthew Watt, I have been with the United States Forest Service since 2007. I started out as a Hot Shot Fire Fighter with Del Rosa and quickly fell in love with the job. Shortly after, I switched over to an Engine Crew in 2009; after my second child was born.
My family and I are in need of support, and prayers due to discovering that I have stage three throat cancer after a routine check-up with my primary doctor, in late January. The good thing is the doctors caught the cancer early. In order to remove my cancer, I must do both radiation and Chemotherapy. Once the course is complete, I will have surgery. I have three amazing doctors who believe I can beat anything. They are all very passionate and understanding. My Family and I are sure I can beat this. I have three amazing boys 13,11,2 years of age that keep me strong willed and motivated, and I will be back on the fire line as soon as I can.
Until then hold your family close and watch each other six out there and stay safe. My family and I thank you for all your support over the years.
These funds will help with unexpected things that may complicate this(situation) in the future with surgery. It will ensure my family is taken care of if and when I cannot. Also it will help with copays to Kaiser Permanente Hospital. These funds will help with the kids care as well as continuing some normalcy throughout my climb up this (MT. Everest). At least that's how the doctor explained it to compare. It is much appreciated. Prayer is somehow my strongest ally right now. Thank you for taking your time to read this.
