Mattie on Tour (Around the UK in 15 Days)
Hello kind-hearted people, this is Mattie Parkinson from Liverpool.
Whilst sitting around during the lockdown summer of 2020, my father bought me two things. A copy of Jules Verne's classic novel Around the World in 80 Days and a BBC boxset of Michael Palin's extraordinary documentary series of the same name. Both the book and the series captivated me and through a lockdown, they sent my mind and heart souring into an adventure and made me want to do something similar. It was then I looked upon the idea of doing a John O'Groats to Land's End sort of trip. But then I discovered all these wonderful places around the usual journey and by using a website called Rio Travel, I estimated I could travel around Britain (except the highlands) in 15 Days. So that is when I decided to turn this into a challenge. And it was an opportunity to help raise money for a good cause. I feel strong about helping to cure cancer and help raise funds for those struggling through difficult times. I lost a grandparent to cancer and a dear soul who I love has recently gone through the worry of it all.
I had always donated money to charity, but never actually organised an event where I could inspire/encourage others to help donate. This is all new to me. In terms of encouraging many people to donate to charity and travelling to places in the UK, I have never visited before. The idea is very simple, I start in Liverpool and I follow the route I have worked out the best I can, making it to John O'Groats and Land's End. There may be chaos or blockades ahead. Such as industrial action, weather warnings, road closures, traffic jams, late arrivals, late departures, cancelled transport, getting lost (hopefully not ending up in Canada, LOL), etc. There may even have to be last-minute changes. Detours and cancellations to certain parts. But I am determined. To complete this journey which I have been dreaming of and planning for the last two years and potentially help people who are in great need at the same time.
Your donations would not be paying for my trip, my funds are fully covered for this trip, all I ask is that you help me reach the set goal of £500 for the fabulous charity, Macmillan Cancer Research. Going beyond the limit would be a bigger and better dream. I thank you all for your time.
