Matt’s Kidney Journey

In the Spring of 2014, Matt Barefield was diagnosed with with IgA nephropathy, or Berger’s disease, a kidney disease that can ultimately lead to kidney failure.

“The effects of the disease started 10 or 12 years ago, but we didn't realize what was going on,” says Matt. “I was just feeling terrible for years."

After 2 years, his kidneys went from functioning at 60% to 20% and finally, after another year and a half it dropped to 3%. He began Dialysis 3 times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 4 hours each time. It became clear that Matt needed a kidney transplant as soon as possible.

God shone His amazing light by finding Matt a donor, who happens to be his best friend, and a transplant is scheduled for December 12, 2018.

The overwhelming medical bills loom over the Barefields. This is the last concern we, the loved-ones of Matt, Cha and Caya, want. We want Cha to be able to freely give of herself to serve and love Matt while being a rockstar mom to Caya. We want Matt to focus on healing, living his best life and being the amazing human he is.

We are asking for donations to offset the immense costs of dialysis, surgery and recovery. We are so very thankful for any amount you are able to give.
