Matt's B.A.S.E. Accident Recovery
Donation protected
This fundraiser is meant to help Matt with the financial burden of his B.A.S.E jumping accident in Moab. On Thanksgiving day, Matt and I, Emilie, headed out to an exit point called Welschman's Wash to make an early B.A.S.E. jump before the winds picked up. When Matt jumped from the cliff, I was waiting for him at the bottom of the canyon. He stepped off and his parachute opened to the right towards the cliff face. He was unable to get a response from the parachute before impacting the cliff face. After the initial impact, Matt slid down the face and hit a ledge resulting in his femur breaking into 6 pieces near the joint to his pelvis.
It has been a trying 7 weeks for Matt since his accident. If you know Matt's personality, you probably know how difficult “taking it easy” is for him so losing his mobility has been heartbreaking. Although the physical and emotional journey started the day of his cliff strike, the financial ramifications have only recently started to take their toll.
Asking for help has always been hard for Matt, even when life is hard and money is tight. I decided to start this fundraiser for him in the hopes that it might help with medical bills, the accumulated debt from the cost of his medical needs, and the financial stress of being unable to work.
Anything helps and if you can’t afford to donate money, a call, message, or post would mean a lot to Matt in these trying times. I have started a Facebook group dedicated to Matt, friends, and those who helped in the rescue effort where our community can stay in touch and show support.
For those who donate here, I will periodically be submitting pictures and updates on Matt’s ongoing recovery. Thank you all for coming together and helping him get through this.
