Kenya Ongoing Assistance
Donation protected
This fund raiser is multi-purpose for several initiatives in Kenya near Mtito Andea in a small town called Taleh. 100% of your donation goes to the families as we cover the fundraiser and transfer fees with our personal donations that are not reflected here.
Current Project: Adding 2 rooms onto Maureen's home to take in her niece and nephew whose mother just passed away.
Cost is $4k for the rooms and $500 for additional solar electricity.
Total $4,500

This one is DONE!
Currently we are raising money for funeral costs and home repair of the 2 orphaned children who will be standing with their grandma. Their father was killed and mother's whereabouts are unknown.
We are looking to repair the home:
Roof $750
Windows $250
Doors $200
Flooring $500
Bathroom TBD
and provide good beds $400
Separately, we are raising money for Maureen's sister's home to have electricity. Solar power is around $500 one time.
Below is the closed project for Maureen's house. The total project was $12,500 and was made possible by $3,177 in generous donations!
Maureen's house is completed and they are living in the new home. We have continued funding beyond this for:
- Kid's school fees (school is not free regardless of what the internet says)
- Maureen's driving school.
- Trees for building an orchard for future revenue
- Stove w/ oven and basic cooking supplies
- Furniture: beds, couch, tables, etc.
- Bicycle for Ryan to ride to school...he had to fall a few times, but he is a pro now!
What is left:
- School fees are ongoing to be paid each quarter. These are around $150usd per quarter total. Ryan's school is $100 and Emmanuel is $50. We cover this via monthly living expenses of $150 until Maureen kind find full time work.
- Fencing - but think donations are done for that and it will start soon.
- Goats.
Also, when we can, we plan to build on 2 bedrooms next year. They are around $2500 each. This will provide a room for her mother and one for her sister and sister's children to share. Then we maybe can go again for another bedroom for the kids to have their own.
Ryan is ready to come to the US for high school in 4-5 years so he can go to university here. Maybe we will start a college fund lol.
So what is Maureen doing with her days? She is in driving school full time now and should finish before Christmas. For some small income she does laundry for others. Her goal is to get a driving job after the first of the year until her land is producing enough goods to have a small grocery store.
She is also learning to bake, make butter, and soon we will learn cheese. She has really been helping in the community! She cared for a woman who was hit by a motorcycle who later died from heart complications. She recently just took a stranger to the hospital who was in labor and no one would help. She was able to get her on a bus and stayed with her through her C-section. She has been checking on her every few days. This woman is a young mother with no father in the picture. Maureen knowing how this feels wants to help her, so I imagine she will find a way. She has used her time to help with community events to raise money for funerals and medical bills. She is planting trees and gardens. She never stops! She is always working on something!
She says thank you to everyone who has donated and sent prayers to her and her family.
Original info:
My name is Mary.
I'm collecting monetary donations for this family in Africa. (Updated amount to $10,000 to also get water and solar panel.)
Maureen is 28 with two sons, Ryan (10) and Emmanuel (5). Her husband was killed in an accident in 2021.
They live in Taleh, Kenya. Her town is just beside Mtito Andei which was hit hard by Covid due to a loss of tourism, the primary employment there. She has had a hard time finding a job paying more than her rent costs. School is not free here, so she also must pay school dues.
Because I am personally connected with Reen, this is not via an organization. So the donation part is tricky. I don't have a 503 set up for a tax deduction. So if you give, it's just out of the kindness of your heart. And you have to give it to me and trust I pass it on to her.
If we can raise around $2,500, she can buy land and build a basic 1 room home (no water or electricity, but it will be hers and paid for). If more is raised, that is just more infrastructure she can afford and some furnishings. It will take $10k to provide a "normal" home with electricity and running water. She will be happy with just land to build the 1 room house.
I will post updates on progress!
