One “Moe” beat
Maurice “Moe” Ricks is a popular beat. His tempo is son, brother, favorite cousin. That guy, everybody’s friend. An awesome rhythm. He has been an active member of the vibrant Jacksonville music scene, recording local bands since 1997.
A change in waveform
Fourteen years ago doctors diagnosed Moe with Congestive Heart Failure, a condition that doesn’t allow the heart to pump blood efficiently. It’s a progressive disease that deteriorates the heart.
He was immediately given a defibrillator that gives a therapeutic shock when the heart gets out of rhythm. Three defibrillators later his CHF has progressed to the point of transplant.
On June 4, 2019, he was officially placed on the transplant list for a heart and kidney transplant. He is currently awaiting said transplant at University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
On pause
When Moe leaves Shands Gainesville, he will be a double transplant recipient. His medical expenses have already reached a quarter of a million dollars and continue to rise. He is fortunate enough to have both Medicare and Medicaid to cover his medical expenses. However, For an artist, time is money. As you might imagine, even if all of his expenses are paid, the loss of wages during this difficult time will leave Maurice without the ability to support himself.
Help keep the beat going
You are welcome to leave your generous donations here at Go Fund Me. Any dollar amount is appreciated and will go toward his mortgage, household bills, and studio space.
