Our Maverick needs surgery

Hi everyone, this is our boy Mavie, the sweetest German Shepherd you will ever meet. He was born in Uddevalla, Sweden 4 years ago and brought home to Canada just before the pandemic. He currently lives in Calgary, AB with his parents Devin and Mackenzie, and his big brother Blu. Mav is scared of his own shadow and wouldn't hurt a fly. He loves nothing more than to run and fetch his frisbee, play with his big brother, and take long car rides with his dad.

On July Long Weekend a fluke accident happened that flipped our world upside down. Mav was doing what Mav loves to do, running and playing in the backyard with his brother. After one innocent twist as he was running down the driveway, he began limping back towards us. We immediately checked him all over but he didn't show much discomfort. We hoped and prayed it was just a minor sprain and that he would be back running in the morning. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

A few days passed and he was still limping on it so we knew it was best to have him checked out. We sat tight while Mav had X-rays taken and we knew by the look on our vet's face that it wasn't good. Mav has broken his front right leg and needs carpal fracture repair surgery. Not only is this surgery extremely intrusive and will take him a long time to recover, but it may not fully take and our sweet boy may not run the same again.

It has been an emotional week as we wrap our heads around how to keep him comfortable, how to navigate surgery and recovery, and of course the cost of it all. These dogs are just like kids and we could not imagine a world without them. All we wish for is for our boys to be happy and healthy and we will continue to give them the life they deserve until they are no longer with us.

The quote we received for this surgery in Calgary is $5,900 and Mav goes in on Monday, July 17th. Although asking for help is not easy for us, we need it. We are starting this Go Fund Me to raise money for surgery for our sweet Mav. We truly appreciate the support we have had thus far, and it would mean the world to us if you donated.
