Mavis' medical bill
Donation protected
Hello there! I've started this GoFundMe to raise some money for my Mum who has been landed with a large medical bill following an emergency procedure last year. She was taken ill when on holiday in Mallorca and was rushed to hospital in a life threatening condition, where she was stabilised, then kept for almost 2 weeks.
Upon returning to the UK, her insurance company refused her claim due to a technicality, so she was landed with a €30,000 bill from the hospital. We spoke with lawyers in Spain who were unable to help as she had signed a consent form, under the impression that surgery was essential to return home, that it would solve the issue and that insurance would cover the cost. None of this was true and she is still waiting to get the problem treated on the NHS in the UK a year later.
She paid as much as she could in a lump sum and has been paying a small amount monthly as she can't afford any more, but the debt has now been passed to a debt collection company in the UK, who are demanding payment in full. She is in her late 70s and has no income other than her pension and no assets other than her home, which already has an equity release loan against it.
The remaining bill is €26,000 euro (approx £21,800), so that is the target I have set. I don't expect to raise anywhere near this much but would love to get her a lump sum to give to the debt collection company to keep them off her back and reduce the worry and stress it is currently causing her.
If you can afford to donate anything at all, that would be a massive help and much appreciated. If you can't afford to donate, it would be great if you could share this post.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
