Hello, thank you for visiting my page!
My name is Maximillian Obasiolu, and I am currently a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Washington State University in Pullman, WA.
A major goal of mine for this school year was to become a community leader here at WSU. Thankfully, I was able to achieve that goal by becoming the Programs Chair/Coordinator for the university's National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter. By taking on this responsibility, I have put myself in the position to foster a strong, intersectional culture for fellow WSU students that are African American, and pursuing an engineering degree. As stated in the NSBE motto, our goal is to "increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."
NSBE hosts an annual national convention in various cities, and this year's conference happens to be in Pittsburgh, PA from March 21st-25th. The agenda of the national conference entails a career expo, graduate school information sessions, 'entreprenuership in engineering' workshops, and a plethora of other events that provide opportunities to build your professional network.
However, the NSBE WSU chapter is in a rebuilding phase and trying to reestablish its presence on campus. We have recieved funds from our university and nationals, but unfortunately the cost of sending our members still rounds out to about $2000 per person, which will account for lodging, travel, conference registration, and miscellanious fees. As some of you know, I am quite a tenacious person and do not want financial status to be a limiting factor that stops me from attending this convention.
Therefore, any contribution would be greatly appreciated and will subsequently assist me in establishing myself as a leader within the Washington State University and NSBE communities!
