Max's Wheelchair Bike
Donation protected
Max is a 5-year old with spastic and dystonic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Max loves to be outside and loves the movement of walking and riding in a pull behind bicycle trailer; however his cerebral palsy limits him from pedaling his own bike; an activity that most young children get hours of enjoyment from. Our family loves to be outside and travel by bike; so not having a bike that Max can ride has limited the experiences he is able to join us on.
The Van Raam Velo+ Wheelchair transport bike seemed like it was the answer to our problems! We could transport Max and his wheelchair easily by bike! Unfortunately, the cost of the bike is more than our family can realistically afford. We have received a grant that would cover $2,000 of the bike and we have saved over $1,000 of our own money; but in order to use the grant that we’ve received, we need to get the rest of the funding ($3,000) by May 31st!
With your support, we could make the best use of our grant money and give Max a chance to be more involved in community and family activities. A wheelchair transport bicycle, such as the Van Raam Velo+, would give our family the freedom to travel the way that we all prefer, while providing Max with the support he needs to enjoy the ride. This bicycle is uniquely suited to Max’s needs in that it transports not only him, but the wheelchair that he needs wherever he will be going (school, library, park, etc.). While pull behind bike trailers could carry Max, they could not carry his wheelchair, and this required us, as parents, to carry Max around wherever we were going, which also became more difficult as he got older and grew larger. The wheelchair transport bike also ensures that it will provide the unique physical supports in place in Max’s wheelchair that he needs for comfort, safety, and optimal body alignment as he grows without requiring adjustments to an additional piece of equipment.
We would greatly appreciate any contribution you feel led to give. Thank you for considering our cause.
