Hello…

My name is Wanda Day. I am a surviving cousin of Richard Brooks. He passed away October 1, 2024 with a plethora of health issues and no insurance. Richard was born to Roosevelt and Gwendolyn Brooks, an only child. He never married and he never fathered any children of his own. His parents predeceased him years ago. I have acted as Richard’s Primary Decision Maker concerning his healthcare. I accepted that responsibility and did my very best to ensure his medical needs were met. Unfortunately, I do not have the means to give him a formal memorial service. Nevertheless, I hope to raise enough funds to simply bury Richard with dignity. I think that he deserves at least that much for having lived a simple, modest life. He did the best he knew to do. It is my firm belief that cremation is contrary to biblical principles and I do not feel it is God’s will for us. I am moved by the scripture:

Matthew 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Any amount of donation, if you are able, will certainly be appreciated. I am working with Mr. Kevin Kopicki, Funeral Director at the Heritage Funeral Home in Berwyn, IL. He is kind enough to guide me through this difficult time. All proceeds will be earmarked for burial expenses only. I will take nothing for myself.
