**Update- Sadly, Scott lost his battle with Cancer. He passed away on Wednesday, January 4th at 4:05PST. Please keep Leslie, Kai, Keilani and Kalea in your prayers.
Thanks in advance for your prayers, love and financial support. As many family know, our Scott was diagnosed with
Neuroendrocrine Cancer on 10/31. Scott is very private and has been fighting with his amazing wife,Leslie since Day 1. Unfortunately, he has declined very quickly, so we are now deciding to share with family and friends.
Scott has Cancer in his skull, spine, ribs and liver (multiple masses). As of the 23rd of December he has now completed 10 days of radiation and was transferred to a rehab facility on Christmas Eve. Prior to radiation, he's had 2 surgeries to remove masses from his spine. At present, he has paralysis from the waist down.
On January 11th, he is scheduled to begin Chemotherapy.
In a matter of 8 weeks, Scott and Leslie's world has been turned upside down. Both have had to forgo work, and are now almost out of PTO.
As a retired Marine MSGT, Scott served 20 years. He has done very well for his family of 5. As we are learning, the resources transferrefrom the VA are sparse because he is not at 100% fisability through the VA. That being said, the speed with which this is occurring and the rising costs have been a call to arms for us to reach out for some support.
The costs that are associated with this next chapter are mighty. ADA compliant van, ramps for home entry, and other ADA compliant changes are needed immediately to get Scott comfortable and at home. He will require constant care. Since Leslie is with Scott so many hours per day, we also have been providing weekly meals, housecleaning, etc for the kids.
Keilani (17), Kalea (15) and Kai (19) are all home in Murrieta.
I (Monique Salas) have set this GoFundMe up and am managing logistics, but all donations will go directly into Leslie's account.
In addition or in replacement of funds, there are other ways you can help! We are seeking any help with trades (GC's, skilled handy people, etc) and suggestions on necessary modifications.
Scott also needs to hear from you. Please write letters, call, text as he can listen. He is not able to speak much but is completely aware.
