Mayukwayukwa Refugee Building Project
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Lori Glover, and I am traveling to Zambia, Africa as part of the 2023 International Cooperation Project and Provs Volunteer team to support the Mayukwayukwa Refugee Settlement and Local Integration Scheme operated by the government of Zambia, UNHCR, & UNPD.
We need $5,000 ASAP to put a roof on the Sustainable Development Center (SDC) in Shibanga, Mayukwayukwa, this July. Will you help us?
Your donation will make a difference in the lives of refugees living in Mayukwayukwa.
The Shibanga SDC is unique because it is part of an effort to transition Angolan refugees into independent, self-sustaining Zambian life. These Angolans are no longer considered refugees according to United Nations standards; thus, they can no longer live in the refugee camps nor can they return to Angola where they will be persecuted as traitors. The Zambian government has generously offered to grant them citizenship.
Yet, there is little funding for this project, but, with help from non-profits, volunteers, and donors like you, the former refugees can successfully integrate into jobs, schools, and homes in the local community.
Our volunteer team is led by Gerardo Acosta, the director of Provs, a small Mexican non-profit (provs.org) that collaborated with Archstorming Challenge to redesign the SDC last year. Provs’ mission is to give disadvantaged communities the tools and skills to grow and thrive, creating sustainable, empowering, inclusive assistance by working with local leaders and listening to and training community members.
Our volunteer team will work side by side with refugees to construct buildings for their independent community and teach them English (the official language of Zambia), building and computer skills. Through skill sharing and collaboration, we strive to improve the quality of life and bring hope to thousands of families living in poverty.
Provs (provs.org) work with refugees in Zambia is ongoing, so please consider giving a generous donation to continue this important work.
Any contribution you make, large or small, will have a lasting impact now and for future generations of refugees living in the settlement.
Thank You for Caring to Build a Better World!
