In our vibrant community of Nelson, in the Kootenays, J Greg Walter (Greg) is a well-known local musician and entertainer who's been courageously facing a challenging battle against metastatic melanoma.

A year ago, Greg received the diagnosis of melanoma, initially presenting in his leg. Despite his resilience and optimism, this aggressive cancer has spread to multiple organs, profoundly impacting his health and livelihood.

The Cause:

Throughout the past year, Greg has navigated a demanding journey marked by relentless medical interventions and appointments. As Nelson does not offer all of the treatments he needs, Greg has had to travel regularly to Kelowna and Trail, incurring substantial financial strain. He has endured multiple surgeries, radiation, and various anti-cancer medications that have not only affected his physical health but also disrupted his ability to consistently work.

Despite being known for never missing a gig, performing in every condition, Greg’s challenges have resulted in missed work and a significant loss of income.

Additionally, as a result of disrupted operations at the Hume Hotel due to the recent water damage incident, Greg lost his weekly gig at the library lounge during their approximately 3-month closure, leading to further financial strain.

The funds will predominantly cover the overwhelming costs associated with his medical care, including frequent travels to Trail BC for procedures and appointments, as well as expenses related to tests, scans, and treatments in Kelowna BC. Additionally, these funds will aid in compensating for the income lost due to Greg’s inability to consistently work during these challenging times.
