Mohawk Hockey: John Lloyd Locker Room Fund

Tax deductible
To All MCYH Alumni, Families, and Friends,

As you all know by now, Mason City is building a branding new Multi-purpose Arena downtown and MCYH will be moving out of the “Old Barn” and into the New Arena this December 2019. This will be a bittersweet time for many of the MCYH Alumni and Families that have spent years of their lives at the old barn building friendships and memories that will last a life-time. But it’s also an exciting time because MCYH has a new home for the future, where new families can play the great game of “Hockey” and build new memories.

Obviously, the new “state-of-the-art” arena will be an awesome place for MCYH to continue on its legacy and hopefully the excitement around the arena will help grow the youth numbers. But with anything new and shiny, it does come with costs! This is large scale redevelopment project lead by the City, who will be covering most of the costs, but MCYH is still responsible for good portion of it. Therefore, MCYH has launched a Naming Rights/Capital Campaign to raise money for MCYH in order to pay for their portion of the new arena costs.

Currently, there are several sponsorship opportunities available for purchase, but the one that stuck out to me was the High School Locker Room. As a Mohawk Hockey Alumni myself, I thought it would be awesome for all the former Mohawk Alumni to come together and raise funds to purchase the Naming Rights for the new Mohawk Locker Room. There are two options available at this time: $5,000 for only a 4-year span, or $25,000 for permanent naming rights to the locker room. I think our goal should be the $25,000.

Then I asked the question, “If we raised this money, who would be a great person to honor and name the High School Locker Room after? Who has meant the most to Mohawk Hockey over the years?”

In my opinion, No one over the past 35+ years has done or meant more to MCYH and Mohawk Hockey than Coach John Lloyd. To many of us, he was our coach in Bantams or High School. To others, he was the friendly Arena Manager who sharpened your skates or drove the Zamboni. No matter what he was doing at the Arena, he always greeted you with a smile and friendly conservation. For decades Coach Lloyd and his family have been the glue keeping the “Old Barn” running smoothly. They put the ice in every fall, maintain it all winter long, and then take it out every spring.

What an honor it would be to name the new High School Locker Room after Coach John Lloyd… a man who has dedicated almost half his life to helping MCYH and managing the ice arena many of us grew up in!  (Actual Naming of the locker room is open for recommendations)

Please donate whatever you can, whether it's $25, $100, $500 or more... all of it goes to help support MCYH and funding the naming rights! Keep in mind that MCYH is a non-profit organization so all contributions are TAX-DEDUCTIBLE!

Lastly, I have been told that an anonymous group of Hockey Dads is prepared to match whatever is raised by the Mohawk Alumni.

Sincerely,
