25 years ago, my mother started working as a database administrator for A&P Headquarters. During this past November, my mom and many of her close friends lost their jobs because the company went bankrupt. Because she knew the lay off was approaching, she began searching months ago for another IT job. Instead, she decided to apply for a job at the hospital because it allowed her to spend more time with my father and 10 year old sister, despite the fact that the yearly salary was nothing near that of her previous occupation.
In the midst of applying, the hospital requires all potential employees to take a physical. During the physical, my mother had to take a chest x-ray, in which the hospital discovered a "spot" on her lungs. After further testing this past week, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. After numerous testing, she found out the cancer was not only a spot on her lungs, but it has also spread to her lymph nodes. My mother has never smoked a day in her life, so the doctors are saying that her cancer has been caused by a genetic mutation. The next step is chemotherapy and then surgery down the road.
As many know, hospital bills are through the roof. With both of my parents out of work, we are draining our savings and could use all the help we can get. It would be greatly appreciated if you could donate to help her out. Those of you who personally know my mother know she is an amazingly courageous, strong, intelligent, and beautiful woman. Although this is a freak incident, it is also a miracle that the doctors have caught it and believe she can conquer it. Again, it would be greatly appreciated if you could make even the slightest donation. Thank you so much.
Thank you,
Jess Van Saders
