Rachel McCabe’s Funeral

Last thing anyone wants to do is reach out for help, but this is not how I expected my families 2021 to start off. You all know my sister Rachel McCabe, she is like no other, she is sweet, kind spoken, would never do anything to harm anyone physically or mentally, she is the sweetest soul and If you meet her, you are most definitely going to get a hug. If you don’t know, she was in the hospital with Covid and Pneumonia. She is fighting a big fight that she doesn’t even know how to process. She was not getting her seizure meds properly at PRMC and had 2 Grand Mal seizures back to back and ended up getting too much Ativan and it stopped her will to breath so she coded. So they intubated her and transferred her to Tyler hospital. She was there about a week and started to get better. She came home and would not take meds , wouldn’t drink and wasn’t using the bathroom. Mom took her back to Tyler er and they admitted her once again for dehydration and retaining fluid. She gradually got better so they sent her home with a catheter and feeding tube.  She really needs an inpatient rehab but her insurance does not provide that service. Well as a few days went by and they were hell for my mom and me and josh. We were constantly having to go pick her up off the floor, she couldn’t pull herself up she was too weak. She fell off the bathtub chair while we were trying to bathing her because she just didn’t want to be still. We did everything we possibly could. Sunday night she kept complaining of her chest hurting and
that she couldn’t breath and her stomach was severely tight and extended out, there was green stuff coming back up through her feeding tube, and apparently that was the infection in her stomach. All this is posted on my Facebook if you would like to read it, so long story long, mom called ems and they brought her back to the hospital and ended up getting tons and tons of fluid out of her abdomen, and she was still not urinating. We found out she still wasn’t getting all her meds. Last night 2/3/2021 she had 2 grand Mal seizures back to back AGAIN and they had to intubate her to protect her airway. They transferred her to UT Tyler, where she currently is now. The neurologist called and said that you can’t physically see it but she is having seizures in her head over and over. We will find out more when we get there. We are going to maybe suggest moving her to another hospital maybe in Dallas or Houston.

My mother can’t not work and has used up all her PTO because she has had to take care of Rachel 24-7 while she was home and pretty much stayed in the hospital with her for about 3 weeks total. She can work sometimes here and there when she’s not up at the hospital. . This really is the last thing I wanted to do but I feel helpless for my family right now. Anything will help and we will be so thankful for it. I have my mom blocked from this, I don’t want to embarrass her. Much love and please don’t stop praying for us! Thank you. ❤️

Rachel lost her battle February 16, 2021.
