McCall & Ryan’s Lahaina Fire Relief Fund

McCall and Ryan are humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and resources that have been extended. They believe they have a flight out on Sunday confirmed with their boxer dogs. We will update if that falls through. McCall Hartline is posting public updates on her Facebook.

Their primary goal at this point is to raise awareness of the extent of the tragedy which isn’t being full reported due to lack of information, resources, and access. The Governor is reporting this to be the single greatest natural disaster in Hawaii’s history. The death toll, lack of resources, logistical challenges is astounding. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE unless you are part of an organization providing aid. Travel has been restricted. Resources are limited. Someone asked today in the hotel lobby where the luau was. THE LUAU! Ryan heard it himself and these people had been offered a full refund but came anyway. It is a logistical nightmare to get resources to the island. They just went though this with the pandemic. If you think looting and lack of supply was an issue where you live on the mainland, you have no concept of how hard it was. The island is BARELY recovering from that and then this. STAY HOME.

McCall and Ryan are extremely generous people and will pay forward any excess funds to organizations that support the Ohana of the amazing and beautiful island of Maui.

So how can you help?

*********
A sudden and devastating wildfire ignited in western Maui on Tuesday, destroying the homes, businesses, and lives of hundreds of people. McCall and Ryan looked out the window of their Lahaina home and saw the blaze and came to the terrifying realization that it was coming for them. With minutes to spare, they grabbed what clothes they could, their important documents, their two boxer dogs, and fled their home. It was like a scene from a movie, but this was the harrowing reality for McCall and Ryan - and the rest of Lahaina - on Tuesday.

The flames didn’t just consume their house; it devoured their dreams, memories, and the life they had built over six beautiful years in Lahaina.

They are safe in temporary shelter and together after fighting their way out of Lahaina with flames at their tires. They have lived and worked in Lahaina for 6 years and grew to love the amazing dream they got to live every day, with tight friends and co-workers, neighbors that accepted them as Ohana, and jobs that helped them fulfill their dreams. McCall was a waitress at Cheeseburgers in Paradise, an avid snorkeler, underwater photographer, whale watcher, cliff jumper, lover of sea turtles (ig: @myhonuworld). Ryan is an Assistant Golf Professional at Kapalua Golf - The Plantation Course working his dream job. Living in paradise, they pursued hiking and swimming with their two boxer dogs. Sadly, Cheeseburgers in Paradise was victim to the Maui fires that destroyed so many iconic shops and restaurants.

While they are coping with the trauma of this loss, they are trying to get to family on the mainland so they can regroup and pick up the pieces of what they lost. Their pride and joy are their two furbaby boxers, Goonie and Chica, who they will not abandon on the island. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get them off as the State-Wide Emergency Proclamation has restricted the travel of animals on flights off the island. Their only hope is to groupshare a charter plane. If you are in a position to help, every dollar matters and will go towards getting them safe and to help them rebuild their life.

We have a potential flight that might work for Sunday, willing to groupshare with other people desperate to get themselves and/or pets to the mainland. If you have any information, interest in cost sharing, or resources to help them, please reach out to McCall Hartline or her sister Taylor Rhoan on facebook.

Prayers for Maui, keep each other safe. *Edit to add* My name is Taylor Rhoan, I am McCall's sister and Ryan's sister-in-law. All funds are being sent to a joint account my sister and I have in both of our names. All funds will go directly to McCall and Ryan as soon as they can get to the mainland and set up their own account. They only have local Hawaii bank accounts and it is challenging to manage funds or wire if you are not on the island in person at a branch. The funds will be used to pay for their transportation to the mainland where they can stay with family (McCall's family is in Fresno and Ryan's is in Denver) so they may regroup and heal until they can figure out the next step. This also frees up necessary resources and shelter for other people who have been displaced but may not be able to go be with family on the mainland. Funds will be used to replace any necessities including, but not limited to, toiletries, clothing, shoes, food, rent, etc. Their future is unknown as McCall's workplace burned down. They are giving back to their community as much as they can, McCall is donating her car to a friend who doesn't have one.
