The McGinnis family needs your help.
After the loss of their sweet angel Kelsey in 2007 and then Karen's double lung transplant in 2015, the family doesn't want to ask for help or place a burden on others. However, so many people have asked what they can do to help and a few of Mike's former students, players, and family friends have found a way to do so. We have set up a fund to help offset the financial burden on a family who is grieving the loss of an amazing mother, wife, and friend.
Karen and Mike McGinnis have spent their lives giving to others and taking care of others. Karen had an in-home daycare and provided amazing care to several families throughout the years. Mike is a retired teacher and water polo coach who impacted and inspired countless young minds in his career. If you know the McGinnis family, you instantly love them and feel as if you are a part of it. Let's help the McGinnis family get back on track.
For those who do not know, Karen underwent a double lung transplant 5 years ago due to a disease that was killing her lungs. Aside from the first year, post-transplant with minor issues and heart issues, Karen was doing well. They thought she was doing fine but with the foreign DNA in her body, it started to fight back and she was put on medication to help with it. Karen was off oxygen until the end of this past January when her health started to decline again. Doctors then realized that Karen's body was beginning to reject her new lungs. She began getting apheresis treatments to help fight the rejection and was put back on oxygen. On July 30th, Mike had to call 911 because Karen couldn't breathe and her heart was racing. She spent the next 5 weeks in the hospital and lost her courageous fight on September 3rd with her family by her side.
Let’s come together to help this family who have given themselves so selflessly to anyone and everyone they meet. Every little bit helps. The McGinnis family has been through more than any family should ever have to.
