6-5-17 UPDATE
It is hard to believe almost a year has passed. In the past year, 10 year old McKenna has showed the true meaning to lots of word like HERO, strong, brave, courageous, determined, fearless, enthusiastic, steadfast, and fierce...I could go on! McKenna has taught us all a lot of lessons, good ones, of course. She has made friends that she doesn't even know she has...1, 462 says Facebookwhich means she has had 2,924 hands praying for her this last yearShe has caused people to come together when they normally wouldn't have. She has created new friendships for others between others...and I am so grateful for that❤️She has made a group of moms learn to work under pressure and we couldn't be any happierThis girl has done amazing things most of us would not accomplish in a lifetime. And don't forget...we all now have our very own make-up artist
What you may not know...the countless miles to and from Detroit, Novi, Texas, and Ohio...the holidays, the fun times, the beautiful days, the rainy days, the special events planned for her that has been spent in a hospital room, the endless amounts of medications, the RN skills she has adopted, Hannah's texts, phone calls, and FaceTime wishing her family could all be in the same room. And I almost forgot the time Todd has been on his way to work and turned around to come home. In the recent weeks, as new plans develop for McKenna, it is only getting tougher...this family needs your continuous support so they can be there to support McKenna. Yes, mom is there but too often Dad's are left out. Melissa and McKenna need him there..he IS their ROCK.
As we plan ANOTHER epic event for McKenna to celebrate her being a kid again...we hope you will too...Thank you for your continued prayers, and support. The Schummer's cannot thank you enough

As a group of Grand Blanc mothers, we are reaching out to to the community to help a local family in need. We are raising money for McKenna Schummer and family. McKenna is an energetic and active 9 year old, who is the neighbor and best friend to many of our own daughters. She attends Mason Elementary and will be going into the 5th grade next year. On June 22, 2016, her family's lives were turned upside down. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, an aggressive and rare form of bone cancer. This family has an extremely long road ahead of them. As a community, we are trying to pull together and offer as much support as we can.
McKenna's mother, Melissa, has been a very active part of our community and neighboring cities by running 100 Women Who Care. It is time that we pull together and help her family, as she has been so quick to help others in need.
McKenna's father, Todd, is the backbone of their family right now and the strength when nobody has anything left to give. Todd is trying to continue to work and maintain the most sense of normalcy, but as we all can understand, that will be extremely difficult to do as treatment goes on and specialist appointments increase in number.
McKenna's younger sister, Hannah, is McKenna's sidekick and best friend. Where there is one, the other is close behind. It is very rare that you will see one riding bikes through the neighborhood without the other within a few feet proximity. She will going into 4th grade this year. Hannah is very active in gymnastics and basketball and her older sister is one of her biggest fans.
The money raised will be used for travel expenses for treatment, specialist appointments, food while they are on the road, potential lodging, and to help offset any other financial burdens that they may experience during this difficult time. We want the family to be together as much as possible through this battle, and having one less thing on their plate of worries, is the goal we are trying to achieve.
It is very important that this family is not left to endure this fight on their own...strength in numbers.
The Schummer's are so beyond grateful for the way this community (and beyond) has come together during a dire time of need.
Thank you for your consideration, thoughts, and most importantly, prayer!
