Help Fight Hunger Among NYC’s Elderly During COVID-19

As a global organization with offices and team members around the world, all of us at Mini-Circuits have seen first-hand the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities everywhere. New York City in particular, which is home to our world headquarters and the 8.5 million New Yorkers we proudly call neighbors, has suffered the heaviest toll from the virus. Beyond the overwhelming number of confirmed cases and loss of life on a tragic scale, the virus has isolated vulnerable members of the community and cut off access to many of the services and support networks they depend on for their most basic needs. As New Yorkers, many of us have family, friends and neighbors who are struggling daily with the choice between risking their lives by going outside for food or staying inside and going hungry. That’s why we’re extending our efforts with the Mini-Circuits COVID-19 Relief Fund to fight hunger and provide meal delivery for NYC’s elderly.

As we know, the elderly population faces the greatest risk from COVID-19. While for many, stay-at-home orders and social distancing rules are primarily intended to “flatten the curve” and to limit the spread of the virus, the elderly, who face a higher fatality rate from infection, put their lives at risk by leaving the safety of their homes in a dense urban environment like NYC. At Mini-Circuits, we believe the community must rise to the extraordinary challenges of this crisis by supporting each other in extraordinary ways, so we’re raising funds for Citymeals on Wheels .

Founded in 1981, Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship to home-bound, elderly New Yorkers. During the pandemic, they are home-delivering freshly prepared meals as well as shelf-stable emergency meals to senior citizens in all five boroughs of NYC. They are also serving an additional 10,000 elderly New Yorkers who live in senior housing; NORCs and NYCHA buildings.
