Acupuncture Health Clinic in Nepal

Hi! I'm Erica! I am a licensed acupuncturist and board certified herbalist that works in an affordable community clinic in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, serving 25-40 patients per week. This winter, I plan to volunteer my time as a full-time acupuncturist and herbalist at Vajra Varahi Healthcare, a sustainable natural health and medical clinic at the foothills of the Himalayas. My aim is to contribute to the ongoing efforts in treating physical injuries and mass trauma following the earthquakes in the Kathmandu valley.
This program depends on volunteers to serve the healthcare needs of small communities in Nepal. Volunteer practitioners see up to 20 patients per day, five days per week, with the help of trained professional interpreters in a community style setting. The interpreters assist healthcare providers in having an intimate understanding of the health issues at hand. This makes for a very personal interaction with patients, as well as capability to host skill-shares that contribute to the sustainability of the clinic by focusing on eductation of local Nepalis that live there year-round.
I am raising funds to support my travels there and to support my role at the clinic. My goal is to raise $2,500 to cover airfare, transportation, room, board, and full time services from an interpreter that will allow me to communicate fully and accurately with my prospective students and patients.
From the Vajra Varahi website:
OUR VISION is “making accessible and effective healthcare, a reality for everyone” by delivering low-cost and free health care from different traditions to those in need. We aim to ensure that our services we are sustainable and that there is thoroughly tested research on treatments of common ailments from different medical traditions. Our clinic in Chapagaon co-ordinates delivery of effective low cost and free healthcare to those who need it most.
With gratitude,
