Our Story

Momentum Dance Maui was born out of a passion to keep dancing amidst the pandemic. When studios were forced to close their doors, co-founders Alannah Andersen & Katie Higuchi and esteemed colleague Angelynn Bair began organizing free online classes. A group of dedicated teachers continued sharing their passion with the community through one zoom class at a time, streaming from their living rooms, bedrooms and garages.

Andersen and Higuchi kept the momentum going and navigated new challenges to start holding in-person classes in the fall of 2020. After two years, MDM was thrilled to open its doors to its studio in the summer of 2022 and offer over 50 classes a week. From a small group of students to now over 250 currently enrolled students, MDM continues to reach more of the Maui community

Now, MDM’s goal is to reach more local dancers who dream of joining their studio by reducing the financial barrier of tuition costs. Join us as we launch the Momentum Dance Maui Scholarship Fund to help more of Maui’s young dancers’ dreams become a reality. 100% of your contribution goes directly to tuition assistance, allowing more students to step onto the dance floor and be part of a positive and diverse community!

Our Mission

Momentum Dance Maui aims to inspire well-rounded and enthusiastic dancers through excellent training for both the pre-professional dancer and recreational student. We believe in creating a safe and positive environment where dancers can thrive.
