The Big Scoot! A CrossCountry Scooter Documentary
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Corrie Vaus, and I’ve spent my life documenting inspiring stories, earning 16 Emmys and 9 Golden Mikes along the way. My documentary work has aired on more than 90 PBS stations, and I currently shoot for a long list of clients that include the USS Midway and the San Diego Harbor Police Foundation.
I'm busy and happy - but I can't ignore a compelling, charming story. So now, I'm following a bunch of scooters across America and making a documentary.
It all started when my husband bought a bright orange Vespa. Off he’d go to City Hall in Poway, CA where he serves as mayor, or on longer rides through the countryside. Then one day, he said he wanted to ride Scooter Cannonball 2023. It's an endurance scooter rally from the West coast to the East coast crossing America's backroads in 8 days. That’s 3,200 miles on tires the size of dinner plates. Crazy, right?
More than 150 riders are signed up, and on June 18th will start their journey from San Clemente, California. They'll hit 11 states, ending in Hilton Head, South Carolina. At least those that finish. I'm calling the documentary, 'The Big Scoot!'
Your support will go a long way in making 'The Big Scoot!' a high-quality doc that even non scooter riders will enjoy. I’ve got the gear (C200, GoPro, drone) and hotel covered (I’ll room with my husband.) But to make this doc a reality, I need support to cover specific costs like gas (it's a long way across the US and back), and post production costs like hard drives, music licenses, color processing, graphics, animation, and marketing.
Why do it?
I’m longing to share a real-life, positive story that focuses on people coming together with a shared passion and goal, especially at a time when there’s so much divisiveness. I’ll document the highs and lows the scooter-lovers experience over the course of this monster challenge. I'll shine the spotlight on small town America, and the backroads that take riders from sparse deserts and scorching temperatures to dense forests and a likely downpour or two. I asked two returning riders their #1 goal. They both said, "No crashes." There were two significant wipeouts in Scooter Cannonball '21 with one rider landing in the hospital. Anything can happen.
I greatly appreciate every donation. I hope you'll share this with friends and family, and stay in touch for updates. Thanks for being a crucial part of 'The Big Scoot!'
