me go to New York with my school Jazz band
Donation protected
Hello, my name is James and I am autistic. I've just started in Year 7 and I play the Guitar and the Saxophone. In my first sax lesson, my teacher said that I was good enough to join the school Jazz band. I am the youngest person in the Jazz band and there are about 30 people in it.
A few days ago, my mum got an email saying that I was invited on a trip with the Jazz band to New York in March! I was so happy that I still haven't stopped smiling! I was so excited!
But then my mum told me about the price... I knew I was going to have to do something like this to raise the funds to be able to go, so I have. On the trip I will:
- Perform in 3 venues in Manhattan, including the Swing 66 Jazz Club
- Play in front of hundreds of people
- Learn more about jazz, under the guidance of expert musicians in one of the most important cities in jazz history
For my autistic brain, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will help me develop my jazz performance skills and the confidence to be myself and show my differences to the world. Please can you help me get there?
