Help Us Support Students with Incarcerated Parents Through The UnLocked Project!
Hello friends, family, and compassionate supporters,
This is the UnLocked Project, a student-led organization at the University of Maryland committed to empowering and supporting college students with incarcerated parents. Our mission is to create a safe and understanding space for these students by providing emotional support, academic resources, and opportunities for community engagement.
With over 5 million children impacted by parental incarceration in the U.S., the unique challenges these students face are often misunderstood or overlooked. That’s why we’re asking for your help to raise $1,000 to ensure the UnLocked Project can expand our services and make a meaningful difference.
Here’s How Your Support Will Help:
- Care Packages & Small Scholarships: With your help, we can distribute care packages filled with academic essentials and snacks to students, as well as offer small book scholarships. These small acts of care can make a huge difference in alleviating financial burdens and showing support.
- Peer Support Groups: We’ll be able to run bi-weekly peer support group sessions, led by trained facilitators, that provide a space for students to share their experiences, process emotions, and build resilience. These sessions are crucial for mental well-being and create a much-needed community of understanding.
- Resource Hub Expansion: Your donation will allow us to enhance our online resource hub, where students can access critical information on scholarships, visitation assistance, and mental health support.
- Awareness & Advocacy Events: Funds will support events like our Awareness Panel, where students, community leaders, and experts come together to discuss the impact of parental incarceration. These events foster empathy and understanding within the larger campus community.
Your support, whether big or small, will directly contribute to making UMD a more inclusive and supportive place for these students. By raising awareness and building community, we hope to inspire empathy and understanding around the challenges students with incarcerated parents face.
Please consider donating and helping us reach our $3,000 goal. Thank you for helping us unlock hope, resilience, and opportunity for students who need it most!
