Welcome! This is the fundraiser for production-in-progress Me, Migraine, and I! A buddy-comedy short film written and directed by Xin Di Lim (Hi, I’m Xin Di!! :P) for her capstone project. We follow the relationship between our main character and the physical manifestation of her migraine disorder as it leaves its mark on her university life. Featuring a journey of laughter, frustration and many, many shenanigans, well, what are you waiting for?
Synopsis:
Meet Mei Shui, a neurotic, overworked law student who refuses to give herself a break. Her self-expectations are so high the bar exam is low. Too much bad posture, late night study sessions and overall stress have finally caught up to her. Enter: Migraine. As the name suggests, they’re the physical embodiment of Mei Shui’s migraine. Migraine is a mischievous entity, seemingly hellbent on ruining Mei Shui’s meticulously crafted study schedule. Improvise, adapt, overcome – Mei Shui improves her lifestyle in an attempt to get rid of them. And it works!
...Or does it.
Me, Migraine, and I is the first pilot episode of a proposed series to raise awareness and empathy for the disorder known as migraine. For a genetic condition with no cure, with 4.9 million people experiencing it, and about three-quarters of that being women (I'm one of them), it doesn’t get as much research as it should.
A result of my frustrations being disabled due to my very own Migraine tormenting me, I wrote Me, Migraine, and I to showcase just how debilitating they can be in day-to-day life. I was diagnosed with migraine in high school and have lived with it since. Like Mei Shui, I just want to make it to the end of my degree and graduate, but my migraine attacks make it more of an ordeal than it should be. Photosensitivity, audio-sensitivity, fatigue, dizziness, nausea – you name it, Migraine has it. Like an unethical shopkeeper foisting their products onto a reluctant customer, Migraine wiggles their fingers and boom! An all-in-one deal! Wow. Amazing.
I believe Me, Migraine, and I will make a positive social impact on this invisible illness and we would like your help to achieve it. For those who don’t experience migraine, it will make them laugh and encourage empathy and compassion. For those who do live with migraine, I want it to feel like a comforting hug – to send a message of “You are not alone. I see you. I’m with you.”
And hopefully, along the way, it will give my fellow migraine-havers a little giggle, too. After all, who hasn’t wanted to punch their Migraine at least once?
Come join Mei Shui as she learns the delicate dance of living life with her very own fairy god-migraine! Thank you for supporting our project!
