FUNDRAISING for Parkinson’s UK
My name is Jonathan, I am 48, have a wife and a lovely 4 year old daughter; and I am a Parkinson’s Sufferer. I first knew something was wrong with me back in 2015 and after a couple of years was diagnosed with the disease.
Since then my body has continued to deteriorate, to a point that in desperation back in 2021 I was at wits end on how I was going to be able to support my family and hold my head high. After a chat with my Parkinson’s Support nurse I was told about DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) Surgery.
DBS implant involves drilling of the skull and 2 probes inserted into the brain and a small computer under the left shoulder bone. This is potentially life changing surgery, greatly reducing the amount of medication I take every day (and hopefully not missing any dosages). This would mean it would help me even with the simple things, like hugging my daughter when I wake up in the morning instead of waiting for the morning medication to kick in.
As part of the surgery I have to lose part of my hair, but to help raise money and awareness I am going to, after 30 years of having long hair, have it all shaved off, it is going to a charity wig maker so someone can benefit from it.
Finally if you want to know more about me and what I do look out for the hash tag #RacingtobeatParkinsons – It is a play on words, I race RC Models and spread the word when racing. Plus I know I cannot beat Parkinson’s but I am not going to let it beat me in this race for life.
Please help me spread the word and support a great charity with as much or as little as you can afford.
Thank you for your support
