Meadow's Dental Struggle: Your Help Counts

Hello, we are Roy and Crystal Hill. We have an 18-year-old daughter, Meadow, who is in need of some dental work. When I say dental work, I mean a complete replacement of all of her teeth. She has EDS, known as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. This is a rare disease that has many symptoms, one of which is known to cause severe decay of the teeth. Unfortunately, this is the case with our daughter. Meadow’s mother and I both have EDS as well, and neither of us were aware that we had it until after Meadow was diagnosed. It is bad enough when one parent has it, but when both parents have it, the child gets a double dose. Meadow has had many difficulties during her short life; however, we never understood what was causing them. It wasn’t until shortly after she turned 17 and our family clinic got a new doctor, Dr. Battles, that we got a hint of what might be happening. Dr. Battles gave us a new perspective and sent us to a specialist who tested Meadow and discovered the truth about all of her symptoms and pains. Now we have some answers as to why her teeth were rotting away at such a young age. Meadow has always had an issue with cavities and decay of her teeth. Many dental offices over the years put the blame on Meadow for not properly taking care of her teeth. Now we know that was never the case. We have dental insurance; however, it is designed to cover small repairs up to $1,500 a year. Meadow needs extensive repair with an out-of-pocket estimate of $22,000. We just cannot afford that, and we do not want Meadow to be in that kind of debt starting her adult life. We are asking for help for our daughter to have a smile she can be proud of.
