Helping Hungry Locals - Whitehorse, YT
Donation protected
Helping feed Whitehorse's hungry homes with chef cooked meals.
This page has stemmed from an extraordinary amount of support of our community who want to give back and help out. I have had several generous individuals reach out offering financial donations to help feed our hungry locals. After brainstorming, i have come up with a plan, and decided this GoFundMe page would be the easiest, most transparent way to facilitate this plan.
Donations can be made in any amount. I have estimated, that each individual unit will cost $5.00. We will use the cash donations to supplement the costs associated, ie; commercial kitchen expenses, food costs, packaging, and delivery costs. The idea is to make a simple, healthy and nutritious, easily distributable meal, to be delivered to Whitehorse Food Bank every Tuesday morning, for their weekly distribution.
Initially, i personally pledged to raise a minimum of $5000, to pay for, personally cook and distribute 1000 simple meals to those in need. The continued support and donations have exceeded my hopes, expectation and personal threshold! I had raised the goal to $10,000, and easily met that mark. So today April 15th, 2020, I have upped the goal once again to $20k.
From all this,Yukon Chef Collective I have founded a group of passionate, local culinary professionals, and aptly named it "Yukon Chef Collective" (YCC). An inclusive group for any chef, restaurateur who wishes to to join, whose only obligation is the dedication of their interest and time. Whether that may be to help every consecutive week, or even just once. All available members of our Collective will collaborate ongoingly, using the proceeds from he donations to plan, purchase, prepare, package and deliver the meals.
Yukon Chef Collective has committed a minimum of 250 meals per week, and since Monday, March 30, we have dropped approximately 750 meals to the Food Bank, for anyone who is hungry, and in need of something nourishing to eat. YCC has also plans to distribute nourishment and show our gratitude to other essential services throughout over community over the coming weeks!
The Whitehorse community was unbelievable and super supportive in my time of need, and I will forever be grateful. This is my way of using my professional capabilities to give back in this dire time. I am very proud of being a Yukoner, and i am more than happy to do what i can to support my community!
*Note: i've been contacted by very generous individuals about accepting food donations. Unfortunately, because of the commercial nature of the kitchen facility, i cannot accept anything that is not from a licensed supplier or provider. Any perishable UNOPENED food donations can be made directly to the Food Bank.
Any comments or questions can be directly to Chris Irving.
