Medical And Final Expenses for Rosalina
Donation protected
My name is Lee Garcia, and I am starting this campaign to help cover the costs of cremation and bills due to the untimely passing of my grandmother.
I have been taking care of my grandmother, Rosalina Chavez, for upwards of 10 years. Originally she was self sufficient and able to live on her own, but we believe she had what was known as a TIA stroke. She was able to call for help and paramedics, where we found her on the bathroom floor. Thankfully she didn't hit anything on the way down, but it was still an experience no one should have to go through. This unfortunate occurrence lead to a myriad of health issues for her, and started the requirement for me to care for her. Along the way, she contracted C-DIFF, as well as a near fatal blood clot found in her bladder. We were expecting the worst when the hospital told us she would not survive, even coming to find out the in building priest had read her her last rites. Despite this, she was able to persevere and return home with assisted living. Doctors did not give her credit and said she was not going to survive another month. A few years removed she became bed bound and unable to move around on her own without assistance from a hoyer lift and wheelchair. She relied on me and my mom to do even the most basic of tasks for her. Alongside all of this, she was also eventually diagnosed with dementia, which became another layer of difficulty for her. In early November of 2023, she was diagnosed with Bronchitis, a nasal infection, and a UTI, and would begin treatment for it. Unfortunately her breathing worsened over the course of the following week and she was hospitalized. The doctors did not provide the best care for her, and discounted everything going wrong to her "old age". She improved for 2 days, then slowly got worse. To make matters worse, the doctor discharged her in a comatose state and said she needed to be taken home or we would be responsible for any future expenses incurred from her stay. We arranged for transport and brought her back at 11pm on a Friday, she promptly returned to the same hospital at 9am Saturday. Under the care of a different doctor, she had a complete turn around and began to improve health-wise. The previously diagnosed Bronchitis had turned into full blown Pneumonia, requiring her to be on a BiPAP machine and subsequently oxygen for the remainder of her visit and life at home post discharge. She had good days and bad days, through the end of December into January of the new year. January 12th she began to show signs of a cold, and was complaining of more pain than usual. We notified her home care nurse and they said they would be out the next day to check on her. On January 13th, we woke her up to begin her day but we could tell there was something seriously wrong. Paramedics were called and she was taken to the hospital. During the stay in ER, her breathing was very labored, and her blood pressure was extremely low but fluctuating. She was admitted to an ICU room early the next morning. January 14th, around 9am, the hospital called to notify us that she was not doing well, and to notify family to come visit as they did not think she would make it. Before either myself or my uncle could arrive, she took her last breaths.
She was an amazing woman, raising her children (my mom and uncle), my cousin, and at some stages in life, myself as well. She was selfless, always put others before herself and valued their well-being. Well respected and loved in our neighborhood, many neighbors and family members had wonderful stories of her. The loss of her life being so sudden has impacted my family tremendously. All donations from this campaign will go towards cremation costs, as well as remaining bills she had before her untimely and unfortunate passing. I thank you for taking the time to read this, and am forever appreciative of any contributions that would be made.
Roughly $2200 will be used for covering the unexpected expense for a cremation/funeral.
The other $1000 will go towards her remaining debt as well as utilities while we get her home in order.
