Medical and funeral expenses for Zoua Xiong

Donation protected
On behalf of our family, it's with a heavy heart to share the devastating news that our mother, Zoua has been in the hospital on life support for the last week. After a week of tests and complex discussions with immediate family members and doctors, we've come to the harsh reality that we cannot hold on to her any longer.

On Sunday, November 27, 2022, our mother went into the ER for a blood transfusion due to unknown internal bleeding before completing her weekly dialysis care. When she entered the dialysis clinic at the hospital the following day, her heart stopped in the middle of her dialysis session. By the time the onsite medical staff got her heart going again, over ten minutes had gone by and after two rounds of CPR; she had lost oxygen to her brain, causing her to go into a coma state.

We held out hope, praying that the damage wouldn't be too severe for her to recover with some time in the hospital. But on Sunday, December 3rd, we got the worst news a family can receive; her EEG and MRI scans returned with immense damage to her brain. Her brain had suffered considerable stroke damage throughout, along with brain hypoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain during the time she was without a heartbeat). The doctors did all they could do to no avail; my mom had no neuro responses other than basic reflexes but nothing purposeful.

On Wednesday, December 7th, 2022, we will remove her from the ventilator and other machinery, keeping her with us so she can go at her own pace peacefully surrounded by all her children and family. She will leave behind three young children, 11 adult children, and 12 grandchildren, with more on the way. We don’t know how long we will have with her once she is removed from the machines keeping her here with us. We just pray and hope we can provide comfort and peace before she takes her last breath. We’re working out the final details for any additional medical care should she need it, and potential funeral arrangements and expenses.

We very humbly would like to open a line of funding that would help us with any costs and fees during this time, so we can properly honor her memory and give our mother a proper burial accordingly to our Hmong tradition and culture should that happen or provide any additional care until she passes.

We want to extend our gratitude and appreciation to loved ones and dear friends who have sent words of love, constant support, encouragement, and prayers while we navigate this challenging time.
