Medical and Living Expenses for Pam McDermott

Hello Buffalo, NY friends and family. I'm reaching out and asking us to come together on behalf of Pam McDermott. She is well known to many of us in the Buffalo area and a great friend to many. If you don't know Pam personally, you probably know her through a friend! She's one of those friendly local faces you often bump into, and she'll always gladly welcome you into the conversation. She makes you feel like a part of the group! Well, a couple days ago Pam received some rough news and is now facing her biggest hurdle. She was diagnosed with Stage 4B Uterine cancer. Unfortunately, because it wasn't caught as quick as possible, she will need rounds of chemotherapy to attempt to shrink the tumor before they can determine if it is operable. As of right now, the tumor is pressing against her bladder and has left one of her kidneys nonfunctional. If they are able to shrink it without compromising her kidneys and bladder, surgery will be a possibility.

But here is where we need some help. Although she has worked in the Buffalo Public School district as a dedicated teacher for 15 years, she is a per diem substitute without a full-time home base. Due to these sudden circumstances and her employment status, she will have to take unpaid time off work and her bills will quickly rise. On top of that, although she DOES have health insurance, her deductible before it even kicks in for her treatments is $5,000. Obviously, this news was not planned for, and we'd like to try to raise the initial $5,000 as fast as possible so her treatments are not weighing on her mind. Anything additional will be used to assist Pam on being able to pay for housing and other bills for the periods that she must step away from work to heal.

Pam is well known and well-loved in the Buffalo community and I'm asking for us to come together for her now. Also, within the next month, I will be holding a fundraiser at The Pink with the help and graciousness of owner, Molly Brinkworth.
