Medical And Travel Costs for Cami

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm setting up this fundraiser for my 9 year old daughter Cambria and our family.

On February 1, 2024, Cami slipped and fell while running through the kitchen. She landed on her bottom, but the force of the fall was enough to instantly snap her tibia. We drove straight to Memorial in Gulfport, who did not have the pediatric specialist that she would need to fix the break, so we were transported to New Orleans Children's Hospital. It was there that we learned that her tibia was compromised by a lesion inside the bone, and that was what caused her bone to snap so easily. They were unsure at the time if it would resolve on its own, and did not want her to go through any unnecessary surgeries. She was placed in a full leg cast up to her hip, with a follow up scheduled for orthopedics on February 20th.

At her follow up, the main concern was still the break to the bone, so she was recasted and another follow up scheduled for March 20th.

This appointment was where we learned that the lesion in her leg is now being diagnosed as an aneurysmal bone cyst(ABC). ABCs are rare, expensive, and destructive bone tumors that primarily effect children and adolescent patients and are usually benign. That information gave us a little bit of peace while we had to wait for our next follow up and additional imaging. Her full cast was removed this day, and she was placed in a removable boot. We scheduled her MRI for April 10th, and follow up with a pediatric orthopedic oncologist the 15th.

While waiting for her next scheduled visits, Cami began experiencing a lot of pain and swelling in the effected area. At this time, the authorization had not been approved for her MRI. After speaking with her doctors staff, we were advised to be seen through the emergency room for pain control and check on the swelling. They did a new set of X-rays and found the tumor had significantly grown in size since the March visit. Thankfully at the same visit, her MRI was approved so we were able to complete this at the same visit. Following the MRI, Cami was admitted that day and and scheduled for a bone biopsy the following day.

Following the procedure, the doctor has stated that the initial impressions from the samples that were taken are currently uncharacteristic of a benign tumor, meaning they cannon confirm yet that it is not cancerous. We are currently waiting for those official pathology reports, and have an appointment on the 22nd to review those.

In the mean time, the doctor said that the tumor has completely dissolved all of the bone in that area, and she will 100% need a bone graft, plates, and screws. We will discuss the surgical plan on the April 22nd visit as well. Until then, she has been placed back in a full leg cast.

Cambria currently has medical coverage, but a lot of things have not been covered due to her doctors being in a different state. We reside in South Mississippi, and all of her care is in New Orleans, LA.

All donated funds will go towards uncovered medical expenses, travel expenses, help to cover lost wages from time missed from work for travel and appointments, and comfort items for Cami.
