Hello Family and Friends,
Thank you for your prayers, they are the source of my family's strength and the number one reason why my dad is recovering so well. His life is a medical miracle. I was the one present when my dad went into cardiac arrest at St. Basil the Great during the Epiphany water blessing. I witnessed him code blue three times. Each time, I begged God to bring him back. I can testify that it was the quick thinking of the retired emergency room nurse who preformed chest compressions to keep his blood moving and Fr. Eric's anointing of the sick and the apostolic pardoning of sins that gave my dad's body and soul what he needed to hang on.
While doctors continually brief us on the scientific data of anoxic injury to the body and brain we pray and have asked for prayers that my dad be fully healed. GOD IS LISTENING. The neurologist and cardiologist are astonished that my dad's brain and heart tests have come back positive. The MRI of his brain has not showed permanent brain damage which means his short term memory can come back with rest and recovery. Also, his heart has found a way to bypass the main artery and its off shoot that are 100% blocked (they call this artery "the widow maker") and his heart is working at 40%. All tests lead us to hope that my dad is capable of recovery with rest and time.
So many of you have reached out and asked how you can help. Our number one request is for prayers, sacrifices, and masses for my dad's continued healing so he can be strong enough mentally and physically to undergo open heart surgery. A secondary request is, if you are able to donate towards my dad's medical expenses that would greatly lesson the burden of a long hospital stay bill. So far he has been in the hospital 37 days. He was making great strides and we were so hopeful that he would have been home by now. However, five days before he was expected to be released, the doctors uncovered a leak from a lead in his pacemaker. The leak was causing fluid to build up around his heart. This resulted in his blood pressure falling to dangerously low levels. Currently, he is stable and awaiting surgery to repair this problem. After the leak is fixed, he will go back to inpatient rehab until the doctors believe he is strong enough to be discharged.
Thank you for your prayers and support. I have witness so much of God's goodness during this time. I know He is DEFINITELY in control of the outcome. I'm thanking God now for the miracles that will come later.
Peace be with you,
Carolyn Mikula
