Hi, our names are Tu Nguyen and Tai Nguyen. Our mother, Myhanh Nguyen, and our aunt, Kim Oanh Nguyen, were involved in a car crash. Our aunt and the driver that hit them perished in the crash, and our mother is currently in critical condition in the ICU.

On a Sunday evening, our mother and aunt were driving at the speed limit when another driver crossed over the median, over two lanes of traffic, and hit them head-on at a high speed. A third vehicle could not stop in time, and hit our mother and aunt’s car from behind.

Myhanh and Kim Oanh were both hardworking individuals, supporting their families and helping their clients feel beautiful by working as nail technicians across the Tampa Bay and St. Pete areas. Outside of work, they spent their Sundays going to local Vietnamese grocery stores and restaurants to support the community.

Myhanh (our mom) has two children and is a widow that never re-married. She dedicated her life to raising her two sons and supporting her extended family. Oanh (our aunt) is survived by her husband, two children, and three grandchildren. She was the aunt that always hosted Sunday dinners and made the best Vietnamese cuisine you’ll ever taste. Our family is grieving her loss and doing our best to support our mother. We humbly ask for and need your support as well.

Myhanh’s medical expenses and rehab will be extensive. She has been in the ICU since 3/26/23. Her injuries include:

-Acute respiratory failure with hypoxia (fluid in her lungs)

-Adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)

-Fractured C1 and C2 (neck)

-Fractured sternum (chest)

-Broken right ribs (3 ribs)

-Broken right humerus (shoulder)

-Broken right radius (forearm)

-Broken left wrist

-Broken right femur (thigh)

-Broken left foot

-Broken left toes

-Small bowel perforation (stomach/gut damage)

-Pulmonary hypertension (overworking heart)

She has undergone successful surgeries in her gut and a temporary fixation on her right femur thus far. She has excess fluids in her lungs, and is on medication to help drain the fluid out. She is on other medications to keep her vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, etc.) stable. We will continue to provide updates as they come up.
